DIETER ZANDER was an early rockstar in megachurch GenX ministry. In 1984, he started the groundbreaking New Song Church in Southern California, then he became a teaching pastor at Willow Creek Community Church. After that, he moved again to start new ministries to the postmodern, multiethnic, multicultural, and spiritually diverse urban setting of San Francisco and Marin County. But in 2008, he suffered a massive stroke on the left side of his brain. He was in a coma for 6 days and nearly died. He did lose his ability to speak clearly, to read, to write, to sing, and to play the piano. Now he is a janitor at Trader Joe’s, and he is discovering new inroads to intimacy with God.
